August Newsletter: Pilates Principles Review

Aug 28
2 min read

Over the past several months, we've been exploring the foundational Principles of Pilates—each one offering a different way to deepen your practice and connect more intentionally to your movement.

From Concentration to Flow, each principle builds on the next, creating a system that supports not just how you move in the studio, but how you move through your daily life.

As a quick reflection, here's what we've explored together:

  • Concentration — bringing your full attention to your movement.

  • Breathing — using your breath to support and guide each exercise.

  • Centering — initiating from your core, your foundation.

  • Control — moving with intention rather than momentum.

  • Precision — focusing on the details that make movement effective.

  • Flow — connecting it all together with ease and continuity.

While each principle stands on its own, they're most powerful when practiced together.

Some days you may need more focus, other days more breath. Some days call for precision, while others simply ask you to move with flow.

That's the beauty of Pilates—it meets you where you are and evolves with you.

As we move into the rest of the year, I encourage you to carry these principles with you—not just in class, but in your everyday life. A moment of intentional breathing during a busy day. Finding your center when life feels hectic. Choosing control over rushing. Trusting that small, precise adjustments can lead to meaningful change.

Because that's really what Pilates is all about. It's not just about what happens during the 50 minutes you're in the studio—it's about how those 50 minutes help you move, feel, and live better every day.

With that in mind, over the next few months we'll be shifting our newsletter focus from the Pilates Principles to Pilates Beyond the Studio. Together, we'll explore how the work we do here translates into everyday life—from improving balance and preventing falls to carrying groceries with more ease, getting up from the floor with confidence, and moving through daily activities with greater strength and awareness.

My hope is that these newsletters continue to give you practical tools and helpful insights that support you both inside and outside the studio.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your movement journey. We can't wait to continue learning and growing with you. 🤍
